Volumes occasionally interrupted by horizontal concrete slabs

Located in Cascais, Amaro da Costa is a multifamily housing complex composed of two vertical volumes with similar features. These seven-story buildings house 40 units and feature 3 basement levels with parking, storage and technical areas.

The two compact volumes are occasionally interrupted by horizontal concrete slabs that register the floor-by-floor stacking of the construction process. The tiles act as a skin embracing the smooth vertical surfaces. Reading the facade rhythmically, large openings give the dwellings an optimal indoor/outdoor relationship, in accordance with the principles of luminosity, well-being and privacy.
