An invite to reflect on the relationship between volumes and landscape

Located in Tavira, bordered to the North by the railway line, to the South by the local access road, and in close proximity to the beaches of Fuseta and Homem Nu, the development of a four-dwelling housing complex is proposed for this large intervention site.

Although distinct in their spatial organisation, the four dwellings are developed on a north-south axis around an exterior space. The close visual relationship with the terrain and the northerly views were key to the design of the rear elevation, which is intended to be open and favourable to contemplation. On the south elevation, two storey volumes appear gradually, introducing a series of full and empty spaces that mark the new volumetry on the street front.

Through the deconstruction of the volumetry, this effect gains more impact with the presence of courtyards that perforate the built mass. The patio, closely related with the social areas at ground level, is a common element to all four dwellings, enhancing the fluidity of use and unity of the exterior and interior spaces.
