The housing complex is located in the east area of Oport, near the heritage school building – Escola Secundária Alexandre Herculano. The site was previously used as a construction materials fabric, therefore it differentiates from its industrial environment. The new complex will provide a new housing block, with 16 apartments (one and two bedroom apartments), and five other buildings as a Student Residencies, providing 212 bedrooms. Despite this distinction of programmatic, the project is seen as a unitary language, which intends to “sew” the pre-existences among themselves, with the aim to reinforce the identity of the “site”. Like the building volumes, the public areas are designed with the same general strategy. In addition, restoring the general features, reinforcing its industrial identity and requalifying the space for new uses, adapted to the today’s needs.
