The new year brings some changes to the partnership structure at Fragmentos, with the election of two new partners — Fernando Flora and Maria do Rosário Jacinto.
Fernando Flora joined the Fragmentos team in 2003 for what was initially meant to be a temporary collaboration. Over 20 years later, Fernando remains at the studio, becoming a team coordinator and, subsequently, an associate architect. In 2025, he was announced as one of the studio's new partners.
Read Fernando Flora's testimony, featured in the book 1994 - 2024, which celebrates 30 years of Fragmentos.
With no experience whatsoever and an immense willingness to learn, I ended up, through an acquaintance of my girlfriend (at that time), in a small-sized space, but facing a limitless sea. After having been hired on a two-month trial basis, we agreed on the next contract and I ended up staying another four months. At the time of farewell, coincident with my birthday, I was offered a surprise party at my place, with all those who were more meaningful to me. And, already then, among them, were Duarte, Miguel, Marcus, Pedro, and so they are still today. As there was no way they could keep on paying me (and all I wanted was to come back), I ended proposing them to return with the support of EPTI and they accepted!... Those were delicious times, when we crossed intimacy with a serious and professional way of addressing architecture, when the days quickly turned into nights. I would even say that we had a hermetic language of our own, with bursts of laughter and private jokes. These architects revealed a personal and human side that makes me admire this profession otherwise, while lifting my life to the assurance that I made the right choice. The time went by and I went on growing with the studio … and with them. Fernando Flora
