Saint-Léger

Alcântara, with its industrial heritage, continues to evolve – and this project marks another step in the development of a city that honours its roots while looking to the future.

As part of the ongoing regeneration of Alcântara’s industrial legacy – one of Lisbon’s most historically significant manufacturing districts – Saint-Léger emerges. Spanning a total of 3,700 m², the project involves the transformation of two former industrial warehouses into a modern office complex. It preserves the area’s industrial memory while introducing a new spatial arrangement focused on comfort and flexibility.

The proposal stands out for its creation of landscaped courtyards, which serve as key elements for natural lighting and the environmental quality of the interior spaces. These patios allow vegetation to grow up to the rooftops, promoting a more balanced and sustainable atmosphere.

Materiality plays a crucial role in reinterpreting the industrial past. The use of metal reinforces the identity of the space and creates a dialogue between history and modernity. Inside, the flexible layout adapts to the evolving needs of contemporary businesses, balancing functionality with wellbeing.

The upper floors accommodate open-plan office areas and conference rooms, while the ground floor is intended for semi-public uses, including event spaces. Adapting the old warehouses into a comfortable working environment required the introduction of strategic openings and skylights to ensure proper light and ventilation. The generous ceiling heights made it possible to incorporate an additional floor, maximising usable space without compromising the original structure.
