The proposal was the creation of a compact volume punctuated by openings, creating play between filled areas and voids, between opaque light surfaces and translucent shadowy surfaces. The ‘warm’ timber used on the façade contrasts with the ‘cold’, white, concrete of the horizontal slabs; the slabs helping to differentiate each floor, the wood acting as a skin embracing the flat, vertical surfaces. The residential, multi-unit building comprises of 10 independent, residential units, distributed over 7 floors, above ground level. Two basement levels will be designated to communal parking.
