Ria View
The landscape ceased to be a background and became a design element
In Fuseta, positioned between the urban fabric and the Ria Formosa Natural Park, Ria View addresses a clear challenge: to create a building in which every apartment could enjoy views over the ria. This goal was achieved through the careful placement of several apartment modules in a terraced arrangement, making use of the site’s natural slope. The offset, horizontal layout of the volumes results in a fragmented and rhythmic composition that integrates seamlessly with the landscape, ensuring that all living rooms and bedrooms benefit from privacy and uninterrupted views of the ria.

The building comprises 27 apartments arranged within this staggered volumetry, which enhances privacy between units. Each apartment has direct access to the outside and features private outdoor areas, either open or semi-covered by a portico structure, all with views of the ria.
The north-facing façade, offering a contemporary interpretation of the region’s vernacular architecture, uses brickwork in a pattern of solids and voids to create a filter that provides privacy, protection and ventilation, while extending the living space outward. The main entrance is set into this façade, opening onto the atrium and establishing a visual axis between Rua Nossa Senhora do Carmo and the waterline. Apartments are accessible both from the street to the north and directly from the ria front, where the building gently connects to the landscape and recedes in scale.
At the heart of the development, a shared swimming pool, discreetly set within the complex, reinforces the sense of community, in a project that seeks to balance privacy, landscape and local identity.
